Campbell County Man Arrested for Charges Involving Manufacturing Child Pornography

JUNE 27,2013

Zackery Morris, of Campbell County, VA, was arrested on June 26, 2013, by members of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children (SOVA-ICAC) Task Force, for charges involving the manufacturing of child pornography, in violation of Code of Virginia 18.2-374.1

As the result of an ongoing investigation by an investigator with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, evidence was located that indicated Morris had produced sexually explicit material involving a minor. Warrants were obtained, and Morris was taken into custody without incident, and is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be pending.

Arrest Made in Monday Night’s Robbery of the Quik-E Food Mart in Forest

JUNE 14, 2013

Bedford County Sheriff’s investigators arrested James Robert Wilson Thursday evening and charged him with Monday night’s robbery of the Quik-E Food Mart in Forest. Wilson, age 33, was arrested in the Forest area after investigators received a call from an citizen advising of his possible whereabouts. Wilson is a transient and has no known address. He is being held in the Bedford Adult Detention Center on no bond.

Bedford County investigators are attempting to locate a possible witness to the robbery at the Quik-E Food Mart Monday night. The witness is a white male driving a early to mid 90’s model dark colored Chevrolet pick-up truck with a standard cab. The vehicle has distinguishing large decals (4X4) with a red stripe through it on the side.

Woman Charged With Aggravated Malicious Wounding And Other Firearm Charges

MAY 30, 2013

At 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night, Bedford County dispatchers received a call from Jody Roach, 1184 Roach Town Road Huddleston, Va. She advised that she had fired her firearm through her door at two subjects standing outside of her residence.

As deputies were responding, Heather Raja called dispatchers and advised that while she and her mother were at 1184 Roach Town Road Jody Roach shot at them. Deputies met Raja and her mother Sherry Wyatt on the road as they were responding. Wyatt advised deputies that she was married to Jody Roach’s brother, who also lives at 1184 Roach Town Road. He was not at home at the time of the incident. Wyatt stated that she had talked to him by phone earlier in the evening and he was expecting her. Because she didn’t want to go there alone, she asked her daughter to go with her. Raja said when they knocked on the door; she witnessed Jody through the window in the door pointing a gun at her. She said that Jody just started shooting. Raja said she threw up her arms. She showed the deputy cuts to her arm caused by the pieces of glass from the window. Wyatt was not injured. After the shooting, both subjects retreated to their vehicle and left.
After arriving on the scene deputies talked to Jody Roach. She advised that Raja and Wyatt had shown up at her residence. She said they were yelling and appeared to be angry. She said she believed they were going to enter the house, so she fired her handgun twice through the door.
Deputies also spoke to two other people who were in the residence at the time. Both said they heard loud talking and shots fired, but did not witness either.
Roach was arrested and transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center, where she is being held without bond. She is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and reckless handing of a firearm.

Lynchburg Man Arrested for Domestic Assault

At 9:50 p.m. Thursday evening, Bedford County 911 dispatchers received a call from 105 Angus Terrace, Bedford, VA. The caller advised that he operates a bed and breakfast at this address. He called to report a female guest had reported to him that her husband had assaulted her and he was armed.

Upon arrival, deputies located Carolyn Kessinger, who stated her husband Kevin Kessinger had assaulted her. She also advised that he was armed with several firearms. Bedford County Fire and Rescue units responded to the scene and transported the victim to Bedford County Memorial Hospital. Kevin Kessinger fled the scene on foot.

Bedford County deputies with the assistance of a tracking K-9, VA State Police helicopter and officers from the Bedford Police Department searched the area for Kessinger.
Deputies discovered Kevin Kessinger hiding in a ditch near Three Otters Road at 11:50 pm. He was arrested and transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center.

Kevin Ray Kessinger, age 49, 19302 Sedgebrook Lane, Lynchburg, Va. was charged with felony strangulation, brandishing a firearm, and domestic assault. He is being held without bond.

Montvale Man Faces Charges After Pursuit Down 460

PRESS RELEASE
MAY 10, 2013

On Thursday evening May 9, 2013 at 9:30 p.m., a Bedford County deputy sheriff observed a motorcycle traveling east on 460 west of Montvale, clocked at 79 miles per hour. As the deputy attempted to stop the motorcycle, the driver looked back, saw the deputy and increased his speed. During the pursuit the motorcycle reached speeds as high as 120 mph. The pursuit continued approximately 15 miles. As the motorcycle approached the intersection of 460 and Wheatland Road, the motorcycle suddenly slowed and attempted to turn left in the median and go back west. The deputy’s car contacted the rear of the motorcycle and the driver fell off the motorcycle. The driver got up and ran, but was apprehended. The VA State Police responded to investigate the accident.
The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Tyler Songer, age 28, 1385 Mcdearman Road, Montvale, VA. Songer was arrested and transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center and charged with felony elude a police officer, reckless driving, driving without a license, operate an uninsured vehicle and fail to inspect vehicle.  He was held on a $2,000.00 bond.

Man Charged With Arson

Bedford County Sheriff’s investigators have charged Darrell Bruce Orange, age 52, with arson of a residence at 1071 Murray Hollow Road in Thaxton. He lived in the residence with his mother. He is being held in the Bedford Adult Detention Center on no bond.

At 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, Bedford County 911 dispatchers received a call reporting the fire. The caller reported that the back bedroom was on fire. Bedford County Fire and Rescue units responded to the location.

Eight More Indicted On Prescription Drug Charges

 Defendants Are Accused Of Distributing A Variety Of Prescription Drugs

LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA — In January, a Federal grand jury charged 10 individuals with conspiring to possess with the intent to prescription drugs. In an indictment filed under seal last week and unsealed this afternoon, eight additional defendants have been charged with being part of the conspiracy.

Last week the grand jury charged Elizabeth Campbell Reynold, 37, of Thaxton, Va., Ronnie Edward Cupp, 51, of Goodview, Va., Jonathan Chad Overstreet, 39, of Goodview, Va., Jerry Lewis Woolwine, Jr., 30, of Vinton, Va., Eric Scott Nichols, 32, of Huddleston, Va., Joshua John Surprenant, 30, of Moneta, Va., Wendy Dawn Hanner, 34, of Bedford, Va., and Les Christopher Burns, 31, Thaxton, Va.

In January, the grand jury charged Bryant Edward Reynolds, 47, of Thaxton, Va., Danielle Norman Reynolds, 37, of Thaxton, Va., Mark Anthony Campbell, 47, of Bedford, Va., Timothy Lee Goodman, 23, of Thaxton, Va., Matthew Thomas Barlow, 24, of Bedford, Va., Jeffery Earl Reynolds, 39, of Thaxton, Va., Tony Gene Abee, 40, of Thaxton, Va., Dana Michelle Parker, 32, George Franklin Lynch, 38, of Thaxton, Va., and Andy Lee Dooley, 27, of Bedford, Va., of being part of the conspiracy.

If convicted, each defendant faces a maximum  possible penalty of up to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $1,000,000 on each count.

The investigation of the case was conducted by the Bedford County Sheriff’s office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Virginia State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration.  Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Neese will prosecute the case for the United States.

A Grand Jury indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt.  The defendant is entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Subjects Arrested for Malicious Wounding and Warrants Issued for Another Subject.

On 3/7/2013 Deputies responded to 1164 East Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike for a fight in progress call. Upon arrival Deputies found a man with a laceration to the face. The subject, identified as Carson Elkins, described that an altercation had ensued between him and another subject, identified as Sherwood Blake, over Blake throwing a rock at the Elkins’s vehicle. Elkins proceeded to confront the suspect and a physical altercation ensued. Elkins claimed he was hit by a rock and a bat, as Blake claims he was stuck with a wooden ax handle. Both subjects were treated and released at Bedford Memorial Hospital. Deputies obtained warrants for both subjects who were taken into custody and transported to the Bedford Blue Ridge Jail Authority where they are being held without bond. Warrants are still outstanding for a third subject, Calvin Blake.

Sherwood Blake has been charged with one count of Malicious Wounding, one count of Throwing Missiles at a Vehicle, and one count of Property Damage.
Carson Elkins has been charged with one count of Malicious Wounding.
Warrants for Calvin Blake are outstanding.

New York Man Arrested For 13 Counts of Use of a Communications System to Facilitate Certain Offenses Involving Children

Bedford, VA – Moses Kahn of Forest Hills New York was arrested on February 25, 2013, on thirteen counts of “Use of a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving
children” in violation of Code of Virginia § 18.2-374.
Kahn engaged in sexually explicit communications with a person he had reason to believe was a minor female in Bedford County.
Investigators with the New York Police Department assigned to the New York Internet Crimes Against Children taskforce and Investigators with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office assigned
to the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children taskforce took Kahn into custody with out incident at his residence in New York. Kahn waived extradition and was transported back to
Bedford County.
Kahn is currently being held under a $75,000.00 bond in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, Bedford Facility.
