On September 11, 2012 Bedford County Deputies responded to 1053 Bills Road in reference to a citizen reporting that his home was on fire. Upon arrival, deputies spoke to the resident who reported that he was at home in his residence when he smelled something burning. He went outside and found his residence on fire. He was able to extinguish the blaze after calling 911. The resident told the deputies that he had seen someone walking from the property and provided a description along with the name of a subject he had been having problems with recently.
Deputies responded to 1031 Bills Road and made contact with a Darrell Orange. After a preliminary investigation, Orange was arrested and transported to the Blue Ridge Jail Authority in Bedford where he was charged with one count of Burning or Destroying an Occupied Dwelling, 2nd Offense.
