Sheriff Mike Brown is urging anyone who wishes to donate to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey to BE CAREFUL and research to whom you are donating money. There are fake Facebook pages, Tweets going out with fake charity websites, and phishing emails are also being circulated trying to ‘trick’ you into donating. Remember, it’s your hard earned money! Be sure it goes into the hands of legitimate charities helping the Texas victims and not into the pockets of those trying to exploit your kindness. Stick to charities you know such as Red Cross, Gleaning for the World and Samaritan’s Purse, for example. Go directly to their websites and avoid emails that direct you elsewhere through links.
