On Thursday evening May 9, 2013 at 9:30 p.m., a Bedford County deputy sheriff observed a motorcycle traveling east on 460 west of Montvale, clocked at 79 miles per hour. As the deputy attempted to stop the motorcycle, the driver looked back, saw the deputy and increased his speed. During the pursuit the motorcycle reached speeds as high as 120 mph. The pursuit continued approximately 15 miles. As the motorcycle approached the intersection of 460 and Wheatland Road, the motorcycle suddenly slowed and attempted to turn left in the median and go back west. The deputy’s car contacted the rear of the motorcycle and the driver fell off the motorcycle. The driver got up and ran, but was apprehended. The VA State Police responded to investigate the accident.
The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Tyler Songer, age 28, 1385 Mcdearman Road, Montvale, VA. Songer was arrested and transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center and charged with felony elude a police officer, reckless driving, driving without a license, operate an uninsured vehicle and fail to inspect vehicle. He was held on a $2,000.00 bond.
