May 7, 2019

At 12:50 a.m., a Bedford County Sheriff’s deputy observed a Ford Fusion on Thomas Jefferson Road being driven in a reckless manner. The deputy stopped the vehicle and as he was exiting his patrol vehicle the Fusion sped away. At that time the deputy notified dispatchers he was in pursuit of the vehicle. The Fusion traveled onto 460 and headed east into Campbell County and the City of Lynchburg. Lynchburg Police became involved in the pursuit and deployed spike strips which deflated one of the front tires of the Fusion. The vehicle continued traveling east on 460 passing through Campbell County into Appomattox County. During the pursuit deputies observed an object being thrown from the vehicle. Deputies deployed a second set of spike strips deflating the other front tire. The vehicle came to a stop at 1:47 a.m. in the 17000 block of Richmond Highway (460).  Deputies removed the driver from the Fusion and identified him as Justin L. Carroll, age 35, of Pamplin.

Carroll was arrested and transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center. He was charged with felony eluding police, driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license. He is being held on no bond.

April Is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

April 16, 2019

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month in Virginia. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office encourages all drivers to put down the phone and buckle-up.

Traffic safety researchers say using a smartphone while driving can be extremely dangerous because all three types of distraction – visual, manual, and cognitive – are involved.

In 2017, distraction-related crashes in Virginia killed 208 people and injured more than 14,500.

Boys With A Dream to Honor Sheriff Brown

The Boys With A Dream have been working with local law enforcement to “bring about a more unified and peaceful community” by holding prayer vigils and praying for the safety of all law enforcement officers.

Sheriff Mike Brown was so impressed with these young men he invited them to the National Sheriff’s Convention in D.C. to introduce them and to urge other Sheriffs to bring this initiative into their own communities. Sheriff Brown has continued to promote their mission and support their many activities.

Now, the Boys wish to give back and thank the Sheriff for his support and guidance over the past few years.
