At 6:30 p.m., Wednesday evening Bedford County 911 dispatchers received a call from Roanoke County 911 dispatchers reporting they had received a call from Barrington Court in Hardy, which is in Bedford County. They advised the caller was a child at that address who advised that a man was trying to kill her mommy. Bedford County 911 dispatchers called the residence and spoke to the victim, who stated that Jason Dudding, her boyfriend, had assaulted her several times with a bat. She also said Dudding had left the residence.

Bedford County deputies responded and spoke with the victim, who refused medical treatment for her injuries. Deputies searched the area and could not locate Dudding. After obtaining a warrant for felonious malicious wounding, deputies returned to the area. At 10:50 p.m. deputies located and arrested Jason Dudding. He was transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond. Dudding, age 38, of Salem, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Botetourt County for fail to appear in court.
