The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office wants to make citizens aware of yet another scam deputies are receiving calls about. Callers are advising that they are receiving messages on their Facebook messenger from an individual that appears to be one of their friends. The friend asked them to contact someone else about applying for government grant. After contacting the individual about the grant they demand money to be sent by Western Union to process the grant.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that you should never give out any personal information over the phone or computer. If you are unsure about the authenticity of the message or contact, it is likely a scam. If in doubt, contact law enforcement to make a report. As always, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
