Seat Belts Prevent Ejection, Save Lives
A Message from Sheriff Mike Brown
Memorial Day Weekend is almost here. We all look forward to the beginning of summer, cook outs, sun and fun. It is also the season of reckless driving, unbuckled driving and, unfortunately, traffic fatalities.
Bedford County has the highest fatality rate in the region; ELEVEN fatalities since January 2017. More than half of these fatalities were UNBUCKLED.
VA law requires all front seat occupants of motor vehicles be restrained, and any passenger from birth to 18 years old be properly restrained in a appropriate child safety seat, booster seat or seat belt.
Bedford County Sheriff’s Office along with law enforcement across Virginia will be out in full force during the national Click It or Ticket enforcement mobilization. We will be looking for seat belt/child safety seat violators. We will be writing tickets!
“Please, everyone, buckle up. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a pickup truck, van or car, everyone needs to be buckled”, states Sheriff Brown. “We don’t want to respond to yet another fatality on Bedford’s roads.”
Buckle Up Bedford, your life depends on it!
