On Wednesday evening, June 29, 2016, the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy held a Graduation Exercise at the Holiday Inn Select in Lynchburg for Basic School No. 87. Six Bedford County Sheriff’s deputies were among the 41 graduates. The CVCJA basic academy is 26 weeks long and covers topics including emergency driving, firearms safety, domestic violence, crime scene investigations, plus many other topics. Each student in required to score 100% on every exam.
Bedford County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Ferguson graduated first in the class receiving the Academic Award. Bedford County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Doherty won the Jay Parker Award for the combined top scores in firearms and defensive tactics.
