Bedford County Declaration of Emergency

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

In light of the declaration of emergency issued today by Bedford County administration, the Sheriff’s Office would like the public to be aware of the following information:

First, the Sheriff’s Office continues to perform law enforcement activities for the citizens of this community. 

Second, due to the emergency declaration, the Sheriff’s Office administrative building is making the following changes to our daily operations:

  • The administrative building for the Sheriff’s Office will be closed for business activities.  We will continue to work; however, no one will be given access to the building unless it is in conjunction with law enforcement activities. 
  • Temporarily cancelling all ride-along activities, facility tours, and community events until further notice;
  • On March 16th we suspended all fingerprint services.  This will remain in effect until further notice.
  • Deputies will engage in the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks, latex gloves, and protective eye-wear (if necessary);
  • Deputies are cleaning patrol cars after each transport;
  • Deputies request that citizens requiring law enforcement services file a report via the phone if possible or, if not possible, they meet the deputy outdoors to minimize the deputy’s exposure and ensure proper distancing as recommended by the Virginia Department of Health
  • The Sheriff’s Office requests citizens to alert the E-911 Communications Center if they are sick or are exhibiting any signs of illness as well as advising the deputy upon arrival.

Missing Juvenile

Update 10:40a.m.…………………..Bedford County Sheriff’s deputies have located Trevor with the help of calls from citizens

PRESS RELEASE

January 23, 2019 

(For Immediate Release)

The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Trevor Ian Chatlos, age 14, who left his home on Ty Bluff Road, Forest this morning. He is 5’8”, 110 lb., blue eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing an orange shirt, black coat, jeans and carrying an old Army backpack containing survival gear. Due to a medical condition he needs to take his medication daily, which he left at his residence.

Anyone with information on Trevor’s whereabouts should call 911 immediately.

Two Year Old Reported Missing in Huddleston Area

UPDATE:

Press Release (Missing Child) July 5, 2018 3:10 p.m.
At 12:55 today the body of August Farley, age 2 1/2 , was found in the water by members of the Scruggs’ Dive Team. His body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke.

Bedford County 911 received a call this morning at 8:30 a.m. reporting a missing two-year-old boy from Rosewood Lane Huddleston. The caller advised the child was last seen around 6:00 a.m.. The child has long brown hair, blue eyes and is wearing dinosaur pajamas pants and yellow PJ shirt. The caller advised they were from Texas and renting a house at Smith Mountain Lake.

Investigators Looking for Vinton Man in Connection with Several Charges

November 29, 2012

ARRESTED

Investigators with Bedford County Sheriff’s Office are currently looking for Joey Dwayne Roach of Vinton, Virginia, in connection with the following charges: burglary, grand larceny of firearms, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, grand larceny of timber and felony property damage.
Anyone with information of his whereabouts is asked to please contact Central Virginia Crime Stoppers at 888-798-5900, or the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-586-7827. All crime stopper callers remain anonymous and could receive a reward up to a $1,000.00.
