On Friday evening, July 19, 2013 at 7:06 p.m., a Bedford County deputy sheriff observed a motorcycle traveling east on 460 west in the Thaxton area. The motorcycle was traveling 78 miles per hour. As the deputy attempted to stop the motorcycle, it continued traveling east on 460 at speeds exceeding 100 mph. As the motorcycle was attempting to turn onto East Main Street/Link Road off 460, the driver lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. The driver was transported by helicopter to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
On Sunday, July 21, Alexander T. Turner, age 23, was released from the hospital. He was arrested and charged with one count of felony eluding a police officer and one count of driving with a suspended operator license. He has been released on bond.
